Here it goes....

Well I did it.
I went public with a very early version of Arshifi, well let's wait and see what will heppen.
I read once on Sourceforge.net that one OSS mantra says 'Release early, and release often'. Let's see if the project will incite any interest.

But I am sure of one thing, that this will be a fun and educating experiment.

Salam...

Moutaz meets Open-Source Development
How do you correctly start and keep up an OSS project?
I have read that OSS process is different from traditional software development, of course. But it is different in the sense of peer reviews. But the question is: How good a program must be in order to release it for peer reviews?
I have also read that an OSS project maintainer must release early and often, and that one must not be afraid to publish the code regardless of how bad is it.
These are some thoughts, and we'll pick up on this later.

Started planning for alpha release

Today we started planning for alpha release of Arshifi. We expect the release to be ready in 7-14 days. Stay tuned.

Welcome to the Arshifi Dev Blog

Hi;
I am not used to blogging, but I have no choice, I have to do that or else I'll go nuts!
Anyway, it's now become an unwritten law that every development project must have its blog. So that's why we are talking here.
What is Arshifi you ask? Arshifi is an EDMS: Electronic Document Management System. It's based on a concept of "tag clouds" (have you used flickr?) So every document scan will be assigned a set of tags, and Arshifi will use these tags in the tag clouds to ease the process of looking for and finding a specific scan.
The project still in pre-alpha stage, we have a working concept version, but that won't be released. We are working currently on an alpha release and we hope it to be ready soon.

You can follow the development news on this blog, and on arshifi.sourceforge.net.

Salam!
